BIRG (Bone Implant Research Group) is a non-profit medical organisation led by international surgeons. The purpose is to improve established hand surgical treatment options as well as new treatment approaches; however, the focus is on the added value and the benefit for the patients.
The Surgical Education Center Tampere (Finland) hosted a very successful BIRG cadaver dissection course on November 02nd, 2018 focussing on the topics of PIP joint arthroplasty, patient-specific reconstruction of the radius and forearm as well as ulna shortening.
The 2018 Annual Meeting of the Italian Hand Surgery Society SICM in Pordenone, Italy was enriched by an extremely successful BIRG Symposium on October 05th, 2018 led by an esteemed faculty featuring national and international experts.
After the excellent reception of the 1st FESSH Educational Afternoon in 2017, BIRG contributed again to the 2018 edition of this event in Copenhagen. Around 800 participants were registered for the Educational Afternoon on June 13th, 2018 and able to choose between two parallel running sessions featuring the most interesting topics as well as distinguished speakers in their field.
On June 15th, 2018, BIRG organized a lunch symposium at the occasion of FESSH in Copenhagen featuring a comprehensive review on the meanwhile 20-year-old clinical experience of the ulnar head prosthesis acc. to Herbert.
